You can't keep a good ship grounded, however, so Sky force: Space X has made its return in the surely-never-to-be-outdated.
Rather than just get the old game up and running again, We has done a top-to-bottom remake/sequel that reflects that most wonderful year of 2017 in every possible way.
You'll see a lot of familiar sights on this new adventure, but even the things you've seen before have a whole new look to them.
The gameplay has also seen some changes, some of which could be described as contentious, though not nearly as bad as they seem.

Sky force: Space X looks and sounds great. While its played entirely on a 2D plane, the graphics are high resolution 3D, giving the game Fortune Gods a really polished look.
Occasionally the bullets can get lost in the detail, which is an ongoing issue with vertically-scrolling shooters, but, for the most part, once you get your eye in, you’ll be fine.
The game also offers cross-buy compatibility with the PS3 and Vita, with excellently seemless cross-saving too, letting you take your progress with you to the toilet if it all gets a bit too addictive.

Most gamers don't care so much about score, though.
Today's gamer generally needs concrete objectives to work towards.
Sky force: Space X hits the mark because it has a fun upgrade system and loads of objectives to complete on every level.
You can still play for score, doing your best on the highest difficulty levels and/or participating in the weekly tournaments.
Whatever the case, you won't find many shmups with more universal staying power than Sky Force before.
